Hidden Sugar!

Glorious sugar – there are now so many claims that sugar is the health culprit of the western world – and I am a strong believer! Sugar is in everything, from our milk, bread to our pre package meals & recipe bases, also in certain “health” Waters!  the more you read, the more easily you are convinced but it’s not only that – the more sugar is eliminated & reduced in your diet – the better we seem to be feeling. label reading seems to be the new supermarket trend – but what are we actually looking for when it comes to sugar? personally I look for the sugar content in grams and then i scan the ingredients list to work out what type of sugar they have used whether it be natural or artificial. Roughly 4 Grams equals 1 teaspoon of sugar – this method gives me an estimation of how much sugar i am putting into my body. if you can visualise placing the equivalent teaspoons into a glass next to the food you are about to eat….. it really gives a new meaning to hidden sugars.

but what names are we actually looking for? & what sugars are the best for us? there are so many articles on the internet – & a lot of different opinions – but they all seem to come down to the same conclusion – sugar in large quantities is bad for us & we should try to reduce it as much as we can in our diets – the research that is being conducted is showing that the glorious sugar is causing harmful effects to our body’s!

Our bodies are our temples right?!

Australia does not have a specific recommendation when it comes to sugar intake – its recommends to limit your intake….

the american guidelines are to limit your intake to 90 grams of sugar daily for an average adult. so with 4 Grams to a teaspoon….. roughly 22 teaspoons of sugar per day!!!!

Yep – after every site I read I get more & more confused – I believe that less is better & eliminating it from your diet is the best goal for a healthier body & a healthy mind. everybody has their own opinion – & this is mine

Sugar is an addictive poison, so work out what is best for you in your diet, trial and error reducing your sugar – and don’t forget to be creative & make the experience joyful!
