Is My Soy Coffee Harming My Health?

Soy-milk

Years ago i remember exploring into different options to replace dairy – my aunty had mentioned to me that she could not have soy milk as it effected her hormones. being only young at the time i disregarded that & went on my merry way to better my health. only now i have noticed an increase of  controversy surrounding soy. surely something that is a widely used “health” product couldn’t be harming us? after doing some research i was surprisingly alarmed & but definitely left confused…..

one of the big issues is the hormones in soy milk – well there are hormones is cows milk too – that being said confused the issue even more. Soy beans contain phytoestrogens, which mimic the body’s natural estrogen hormones. now that’s alarming! whether or not studies prove otherwise its still a main fact of soy.but there are other products that contain phytoestrogens included certain beans, seeds & grains. there has even been concern in regards to infants & infant soy formula – there saying that it should only be used if necessary due to the phytoestrogen levels.and because phytoestrogen can mimic the body’s estrogen levels & this might reduce or increase the effect on individuals especially if you are on birth control pills. it is also found that Asian countries consume a very high does of soy. But looking into it a bit further there forms of soy (etc Tofu & Miso soup) have been prepared in traditional forms like fermentation. and the alarming part – in western countries, soy is broken down & we use the soy protein as our food ingredient. Because it is not a “pure form” in the western world we miss out on all the good nutrients unlike the Asian countries.

Okay – so far the studies on soy have had mixed results – the internet has mixed results – health professionals have mixed results – soy is in fact in nearly every product out there – confused yet?! What is it actually doing to our bodies? is the controversy true? should we maybe not be worried about it? are all the alarming facts true? well its up to you to decide………….our bodies are our temple & we need to do what we think is best, hopefully there will be answers soon so if  its indeed not healthy to be having so we can be more aware and help our bodies.

Hidden Sugar!

Glorious sugar – there are now so many claims that sugar is the health culprit of the western world – and I am a strong believer! Sugar is in everything, from our milk, bread to our pre package meals & recipe bases, also in certain “health” Waters!  the more you read, the more easily you are convinced but it’s not only that – the more sugar is eliminated & reduced in your diet – the better we seem to be feeling. label reading seems to be the new supermarket trend – but what are we actually looking for when it comes to sugar? personally I look for the sugar content in grams and then i scan the ingredients list to work out what type of sugar they have used whether it be natural or artificial. Roughly 4 Grams equals 1 teaspoon of sugar – this method gives me an estimation of how much sugar i am putting into my body. if you can visualise placing the equivalent teaspoons into a glass next to the food you are about to eat….. it really gives a new meaning to hidden sugars.

but what names are we actually looking for? & what sugars are the best for us? there are so many articles on the internet – & a lot of different opinions – but they all seem to come down to the same conclusion – sugar in large quantities is bad for us & we should try to reduce it as much as we can in our diets – the research that is being conducted is showing that the glorious sugar is causing harmful effects to our body’s!

Our bodies are our temples right?!

Australia does not have a specific recommendation when it comes to sugar intake – its recommends to limit your intake….

the american guidelines are to limit your intake to 90 grams of sugar daily for an average adult. so with 4 Grams to a teaspoon….. roughly 22 teaspoons of sugar per day!!!!

Yep – after every site I read I get more & more confused – I believe that less is better & eliminating it from your diet is the best goal for a healthier body & a healthy mind. everybody has their own opinion – & this is mine

Sugar is an addictive poison, so work out what is best for you in your diet, trial and error reducing your sugar – and don’t forget to be creative & make the experience joyful!

himalayan-salt-crystals1

Its funny how the minute you see products you would normally only get in your local health food store pop up in all your major supermarkets – yep its a craze :|! i think it first started when there was an over demand for products that where gluten free, dairy free, organic – basically anything that was better for our body’s. i was shopping at my local coles when i noticed that a very well known salt & pepper brand had just brought out Himalayan salt! i was interested as the salt was popping up in all these recipes & hearing that drinking it on a daily basis was very healthy for your body! was this the next big thing hitting the health world since organic apple cider vinegar?

Well im impressed – a simple swap in our pantry cupboard is all you need to start introducing this wonder salt product into our lives! & the next step is drinking it in water called a “sole” which is himalayan salt with water! . the salt lamps are also amazing , the glow is beautiful! as well as a small bar of the salt to have in the shower which helps with blemish prone skin.cant wait to make these small changes for a healthier body!!

These sites explain all the salts benefits, a must read!
